Lets begin!
Golf Swing Tips # 3 – Ball Position
I believe that ball position will very from player to player. There is no right or wrong way to play a golf ball in your stance. Some players will play the ball in the front of there stance for all shots, others will play the ball in the front of there stance for woods, middle and back of stance for irons and wedges. Each have there own pros and cons. Remember when learning how to play golf to practice different ball positions to find what suites you best. Lets go over the most common ways to setup ball position in your stance.
Ball position in stance
Driver: Played in the front of the stance just off the inside front heal. This will allow you to make contact with on the upswing. The reason being is that the driver will swing on a shallower angle than any other club.
Long Irons and fairway woods: Played about 1 ball back from driver position.
Middle irons: Played 2 balls back from driver position or off front left heal, almost middle of stance. As your clubs get shorter, your swing plane will become less shallow.
Short Irons And Wedges: Played 3 balls back front driver position and at middle of stance.
This is the basic ball position for your golf swing setup. This is not set in stone however. You can practice with it and see what works best for you. There are players that will play there wedges in the very back of there stance. I would recommend using this ball position when learning how to golf. This will give the best chance at making correct contact with the ball at the right time.
Now that you have learned the key basic fundamentals on how to grip a golf club, golf swing posture, and ball position you should be ready to get out there and start your way to becoming a great golfer. This will not happen over night, it will take hard work and lots of practice for most. Remember to always keep learning and when you seem to be having trouble, refer back to your basics. A Lot of golf swing problems occur when we develop a bad swing habit and we must go back to the basics and see where we are going wrong and fix it.
